Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (for structure)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for sweetness)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (adds richness)
- 2 large eggs (binds ingredients)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (enhances flavor)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda (helps cookies rise)
- ½ teaspoon salt (balances flavors)
- 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
Optional Add-Ins:
- Chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)
- Shredded coconut (adds texture)
- Sprinkle of sea salt (for a gourmet touch)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat & Prepare Baking Sheet
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Cream Butter & Sugar
- In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- This step incorporates air, helping create soft cookies.
Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients
- Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract for enhanced flavor.
Step 4: Mix Dry Ingredients
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until combined.
- Be careful not to overmix, as this can make cookies tough.
Step 5: Fold in Chocolate Chips
- Gently fold in chocolate chips (or any optional add-ins).
Step 6: Shape & Space Cookies
- Scoop 1- to 2-inch dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Leave at least 2 inches between cookies to allow for spreading.
Step 7: Bake to Perfection
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown but centers remain soft.
- Remove from oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- Avoid Dry Cookies: Measure flour correctly by spooning and leveling, not scooping directly.
- For Thicker Cookies: Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
- Crispy Edges? Flatten dough balls slightly before baking.
- Healthier Alternative: Replace sugar with coconut sugar or honey for a different flavor.
